The Anacostia Trails Heritage Area encompasses the entirety of Prince George’s County, and is the first Heritage Area to include an entire county. The original Heritage Area was certified in 2001, with over 100 square miles of Northern Prince Georges County – bordered by Washington, D.C. to the south, Montgomery County to the West, Howard and Anne Arundel County to the North. In 2017, the eastern boundary was amended to include portions of Bowie, Glenn Dale, and Cheverly to the East. The full county boundary area was amended in 2025. The Heritage Area is managed by Anacostia Trails Heritage Area Inc.
